Men's Cross Country Takes First At Opening Home Meet

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's cross country teams finished first and third, respectively, in a meet Saturday morning against Boston College and Maine. The men's team placed three runners in the top five and four in the top 10. They were led by UMass Sophomore Jesse Regnier (Hampden, Mass.) who placed first overall with a time of 25:11. The women's team was led with a strong performance by Christina Derosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) who placed second overall with a time of 18:33.
Along with Regnier, junior Nils Fischer (Stow, Mass.) finished fourth overall (25:32), freshman Nicolai Naranjo (Essex Fells, N.J.) finished fifth overall (25:42), freshman Andrew McCann (Fayetteville, N.Y.) finished 10th overall (26:04) and junior Ryan Durkin (Andover, Mass.) placed 11th overall (26:05) to lead the UMass Minutemen.
On the women's side, after DeRosa, freshman Lauren Liuzzo (Acton, Mass.) finished 10th overall (19:27), senior Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) finished 11th overall (19:33), freshman Ellis Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) finished 13th overall (19:38) and junior Amber Sayer (Amherst, Mass.) finished 18th overall (19:59) to pace the Minutewomen's top five.
The UMass men's and women's cross country teams will return to competition at the Meet of Champions in New York, N.Y. this Saturday, September 30.
