AMHERST, Mass. - A full day of activities is planned to celebrate the Cross Country/Track & Field Alumni Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 23 on the UMass campus. The day will start with an Alumni 5,000 meter run at the cross country course and end with the dedication of the new track and field complex.
Schedule:
9:15 a.m. - Alumni 5,000 meter run
10:00 a.m. - UMass vs. Boston College/Maine (men and women)
11:30 a.m. - Pregame tailgate for UMass/Stony Brook football game
1:00 p.m. - Football vs. Stony Brook
4:30 p.m. - Track Dedication Ceremony
Directions To Cross Country Course:
OPTION A: For vans and automobiles - Follow North Pleasant Street through campus until you reach the School of Education Building. It is a small brick building on the right side of the road (the last building on campus) and just beyond the newly constructed North Dormitories. Turn right into the driveway immediately after the building (Parking Lot #66). Park at the rear of Lot #66, or follow directly beyond it into the adjacent Lot #44.
Walk approximately 400 yards up a cinder path that starts between Lot #66 and Lot #44. This entrance will be marked. The starting line for the meet is located on the left.
OPTION B: For vans and automobiles - Follow North Pleasant Street through campus until you reach the stop light at the Grad Research Tower and the intersection of Governors Drive and Eastman Lane. Turn right and then immediately left into parking area Red Lot #43. Drive to the back of the lot and enter Green Lot #27. Park as close to the far end of these two lots as possible. Walk out the back end of this parking area and continue north past the School of Education Building. From this point, follow the directions listed in Option A above to find the starting area.
FOR TEAM BUSES: Follow North Pleasant Street through the stop light at the intersection of Eastman Lane and Governors Drive. Approximately 200 yards later, (at the end of the "Hedgerow" of pine trees, turn right immediately into a driveway. Follow this up a gradual hill and turn left at the "UMass - Welcome Students" sign. Follow through this section of the parking lot, progressing to the lower left section of the lot, across from the playground equipment. The path to the starting line is at the bottom of lot #44 and will be well marked.
HANDICAP PARKING: Follow the North Pleasant Street past every building on campus. Approximately 200 yards after the Lutheran Church, turn right into a small parking area at the Wysocki House.
