UMass Wins Its First Match Of Spring Season, 6-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. - UMass won its first spring match of the season, beating Long Island, 6-1, in a match played at Army on Friday, Feb. 10. UMass won each of its singles matches in straight sets and the doubles point, 3-0.
The Minutewomen started the day out strong by winning all of its doubles matches and taking the point. In the #1 spot Marsha Pozar and Michele Spiess beat Krystina Bachner and Merve Koksal 8-3. Susan Johnson and Dorothy Iwanowicz controlled the #2 match winning 8-2 over Amy Hosotsuji and Jessica Losse. Finally at the #3 doubles spot Jana Bartoloni and Lauren MacKay were to much for Long Islands Andrea Pertab and Ashley Harvey to handle as UMass won 8-4.
UMass continued the domination in singles action with Spiess winning 6-3, and 6,-1 in the #1 spot taking on Loose. Pozar and Koksal meet at #2 with UMass coming out victorious 6-3, 6-0. Susan Johnson continued the trend with 7-5 and 6-2 wins over Long Islands Krystina Bachner.
The Blackbirds earned thier point with Harvey defeating Iwanowicz, 6-1, 6-3. That was all they could come up with as UMass' Bartoloni and Gimenez rounded out the day winning in the #5 and #6 spots, respectively.
