Pozar, De Jong Still Alive At Big Green Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Masha Pozar and Freshman Ellen de Jong have advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective brackets at the Big Green Invitational. Pozar, in Group A, received a bye in round one before winning in the round of 16. De Jong won two matches to reach the quarterfinals in Group B. Freshman Maude Lecluyse won one match in Group B before falling. In doubles play, Masha Pozar and Michele Spiess received a bye before falling to a pair from Boston University.
Masha Pozar was seeded in Group A, so she received a bye in the opening round. She then went on to defeat Carley Markovitz of the host Dartmouth Big Green, 6-4, 6-0. She will face Jesse Adler, also of Dartmouth, in the quarterfinals.
In Group B, a pair of freshmen competed for UMass. Ellen de Jong started by defeating Amanda Barletta of the University of Rhode Island, 6-3, 6-3. She then went on to upset seeded player Grace Kammerer of Southern Miss, 3-6, 7-5 (5). She will face Elizabeth Warnack of Dartmouth in the quarterfinals.
Maude Lecluyse opened up play by defeating Steff Catanzano of Rhode Island, 6-4, 6-3. She then fell to Rebecca Row of Boston University, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, co-captains Michele Spiess and Masha Pozar were seeded and received a first round bye. They then fell to Erin Katims and Elizabeth Corrao of Boston University.
