AMHERST, Mass. - Boston University scored twice within the first eight minutes of play on Wednesday afternoon to defeat the UMass men's soccer team 3-1 at Rudd Field. The loss drops the Minutemen to 3-6-0 overall, while Boston University improves to 3-4-1 as they have won three straight games.

UMass sophomore Kenny Cook (Fairport, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal for the Minutemen on a header which went just inside the left goal post. The play was set up on a corner kick which was triggered by sophomore Matty Lemire (Ipswich, Mass.). Freshman Prince Ofosu (Worcester, Mass.) redirected the inbounds kick to Cook who put the ball home. The goal was the second of his career for Cook. Ofosu leads UMass in assists with four this season, while the other assist going to LeMire gives him a team-high seven points this season.

The Terriers jumped on board quickly to take control of the game scoring just three and a half minutes into the action. Sedrick Chin, who tallied the game-winner against UMass last season in overtime, put a shot from 10-yards out to the left of the goal into the bottom right corner of the net for the early lead. Chin corralled the rebound from Neil Hlavaty's shot for the score.

Roland Erlichman tacked on the second Boston University goal at the 7:03 mark of the game when he headed home a rebounded shot just infront of the UMass net.

The third Terrier goal was in the 89th minute when Paddy Ferriter found the feet of Dan Schultz who struck from just five yards out placing the ball in the left center of the goal. Boston University forced a UMass turnover in the midfield to score the break-away goal.

Despite having a 6-to-0 advantage in corner kicks, the Minutemen were able to convert just one. Boston University held a slight edge in shots with a 10-to-7 margin.

Terrier keeper Zach Riffett was credited with the win making two saves. UMass started junior Nick Billman (St. Louis, Mo.) for the injured Zack Simmons (Durham, N.H.) who injured his ankle in Thursday night's practice. Billman also made two saves in his first action of the season.

UMass will take to the road this Saturday when the Minutemen head to Siena for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off. The Maroon and White will then have a week off before opening up its Atlantic 10 schedule against Rhode Island at Rudd Field on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
