AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Christina Derosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) took second-place to lead the University of Massachusetts women's cross country team on Saturday morning as the Minutewomen hosted Maine and Vermont at the Amherst College Cross Country Course.
Vermont won the overall meet with 28 points, followed by Maine (48) and UMass (49). Heather Jovanelli of Maine was the top individual finisher winning the meet in 18 minutes, 59 seconds, just eight seconds ahead of DeRosa.
DeRosa led the Minutemen for the ninth consecutive race of her career with her second-place effort in 19 minutes, seven seconds on the 5K course. This was the fourth top-5 finish of her career.
Sophomore Amanda Bodette (East Middlebury, Vt.) earned her first career top-10 finish taking 10th as the second UMass runner to cross the finish line. Bodette led a pack of Minutewomen finishing in the top-15, but they could not close the gap between a group of Vermont and Maine runners to cut into the lead.
Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.), Erin O'Donnell (Reading, Mass.), and Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.) rounded out the top-five harriers for UMass.
The Minutemen will break for two weeks before heading to the prestigious Paul Short Invitational (Oct. 1) hosted by Lehigh University.
