AMHERST, Mass. - Workers have begun the initial phase of applying the track surface to the asphalt which has cured for the last three weeks. The polymer surface must be applied in several layers to build up its foundation before it is ready. The target date for completion of the facility is the end of September to mid-October.
During the curing period for the asphalt foundation of the track, construction began on the auxillary throwing area which is located behind McGuirk Alumni Stadium and is adjacent to the football practice facility. The new throwing area features two shot put circles, a javeling lane, and the most visible aspect of the facility, a hammer/discus circle with protective net supports.

AMHERST, Mass. - With the infield grass completely installed, workers laid down asphalt to begin the foundation for the nine-lane track this week. The long jump and triple jump areas were also asphalted and sand was placed in the pits.
The asphalt must cure for several weeks before the running surface of the track can be poured into place.
Construction on the auxillary throwing area will begin next week adjacent to the football practice fields.
Work on the perimeter fencing and parking areas was also completed this week.

AMHERST, Mass. - Workers began laying down sod for the infield and installing fences around the new UMass Track & Field Complex as work continues on the facility.
Crews have spent the early part of the week installing the sod which is delivered on flat bed trucks and then rolled into position.
As soon as the infield is finished, which should be late Wednesday afternoon, construction will continue on perimeter fencing and grading of surrounding areas.
Next week construction will focus on the track itself as asphalt will be layed down to begin the foundation of the nine-lane track. As the asphalt sets, workers will then begin construction on the auxillary throwing area adjacent to the football practice fields.
The new Track & Field Complex is adjacent to the UMass Softball Complex and the Rudd Soccer Complex.

AMHERST, Mass. - The construction of the new UMass Track & Field Complex is now past the midway point as the facility is beginning to take shape. The track itself has been dug out, jumping and throwing pits have been installed, and the infield is ready to be sodded.
Workers will begin installing the track foundation and lay the sod within the next two weeks. As the foundation sets up, construction will begin on the auxilary throwing area adjacent to the football practice fields.
The final work on the track will be to set the track surface itself with construction slated to finish in late September/early October.

AMHERST, Mass. - With construction fully two months in progress, the University of Massachusetts track and field programs' new home is on its way. The new Track & Field Complex is adjacent to the UMass Softball Complex and the Rudd Soccer Complex.
Construction is slated for completion during the fall.
The multi-million dollar complex will be one of the finest in New England featuring a nine-lane track, jumping pits, and an additional practice/competition area for throwing events.
As one of Massachusetts' most successful programs, the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams have combined to win 12 Atlantic 10 Championship titles and will look to increase that total in their new home.
