Three Tennis Players Earn A-10 Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman Masha Pozar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer for the 2004-05 season while sophomore Michele Spiess (Stuttgart, Germany) and senior captain Sasha Edelstein (Haifa, Israel) were named to the 2005 All-Conference Team for their performance throughout the season, announced today.

Pozar earned Most Outstanding Performer with her 16-9 singles mark, including a 14-6 record at No. 2. In doubles, she partnered with Spiess where they went 15-10. At the A-10 Championship, Pozar won one singles match and two doubles matches. Pozar was named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice during the season.

Spiess sported the best record on the team with a 24-5 record, including a 20-5 record at No. 1. Spiess was named A-10 Performer of the Week and UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week twice during the season.

Edelstein was named to the All-Conference team with a 15-9 overall record in singles, with an 11-6 record at No. 3. In doubles competition, Edelstein went a combined 19-10, including a 13-7 record with junior Jana Bartoloni (Quincy, Mass.). Edelstein garnered A-10 Performer of the Week once during the season.

The Minutewomen reached the conference finals for the second time in three years, but fell to Richmond in the championship match, 5-1.
