ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Freshman Reuben Rappe (Farmington, Minn.) led UMass at the NCAA Zone A Diving Regionals last weekend with a 16th-place overall finish in the 3-meter dive. Rappe was joined by senior Brandon Doane (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Mary Jenkins (Acton, Mass.) of the women's team at the regional meet.

Rappe took 15th in the preliminaries of the 3-meter dive with his tally of 252.35 points. As he finished among the top 18 divers in the prelims, he advanced to the finals of the event. His score of 168.75 in the finals plus his preliminary round total placed him 16th overall in the event.

In the 1-meter dive, Rappe finished 27th in the preliminary round with a score of 197.85.

Doane fell just four points shy of advancing to the finals of the 1-meter dive as he finished 20th in the prelims with a score of 237.00. Jeff Salgado of Maryland finished 18th in the opening round of dives with a total of 240.70 points.

In the 3-meter event, Doane finished 23rd in the prelims with a total of 207.50 points.

Jenkins finished 21st in the 1-meter preliminary round with a total of 208.55 points and 36th in the 3-meter prelims with 181.95 points.

Denis Nemtsanov of Pittsburgh won the overall 1-meter event and will advance to the NCAA Championships. Adam Pierce of Penn State won the 3-meter dive with teammate Marc Gastaldo taking second. Both will advance to the NCAA Championships.

In the women's 1-meter dive, Melanie Loftus of Yale will advance to the championships as the regional champion. Alison Riccobono of Penn State won the 3-meter event, while Katura Horton-Perinchief of George Washington advances after finishing third. Loftus placed second on the three meter, but previously advanced to the NCAAs by virtue of winning the one meter.
