AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts tennis team in collaboration with The Rotary Club of Amherst will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Boyden Courts. All monies raised will benefit UMass Tennis and the High School Scholarship Fund of the Rotary Club. The format will be mixed doubles with 16 to 32 teams in round one beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. Each team will consist of a college or high school player and a mature supporter of UMass Tennis. The early rounds of the tournament will use the pro-am procedures with a single set. The first team to win eight games with a lead of at least two games will win. As necessary, round one will involve a number of byes so that round two will consist of 16 teams. As free courts become available, players who have been eliminated can continue to play tennis with their own informal arrangements. Around Noon, play will halt for a lunch break.
In the afternoon, after completion of the quarterfinals, the semifinalists will face one another. The later rounds will use regular scoring, with a tiebreaker at six all. The first team to win two sets will be the winner. The final will be played at Noon on Sunday, Oct. 3.
