AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts women's tennis head coach Judy Dixon has announced the signing of Carly Ludmer to a national letter of intent during the early signing period. The Demarest, N.J., native has compiled a 38-6 record during her junior/senior years and an overall high school record of 63-19. Ludmer was a key player in leading the Norsewoman to a league title in 2003 and number four ranking among all tennis teams in Bergen County for 2004. A member of the girls varsity tennis team since her freshman year, Ludmer was voted team captain in 2004. Ludmer is a ranked USTA player. She achieved her best ranking in March 2004, ranked 46 in the G-18 USTA Eastern Section.
"We are looking forward to Carly joining us next September," said Dixon. "I recruit a certain kind of player for my team and Carly possessed the desire and talent I'm looking for."
Ludmer maintained a 3.6 G.P.A. during her four years at Northern Valley Demarest. She was selected Student of the Month for February 2002, served on the Executive Committee of Peer Mentoring and was recently selected McDonald's Athlete of the Month at NVHS-Demarest.
"Carly's natural strength, desire and work ethic were the key ingredients that enabled her to achieve this goal", said William Kingwood, her veteran coach, who has many ranked scholarship athletes among those he coached. "Carly has just tapped the tip of her talent curve and is going on to play Division I tennis under the watchful eye of a very accomplished coach; Judy Dixon will bring her to the next level."
