Women's Track Places Fourth At UConn

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team finished fourth in the outdoor meet hosted by UConn. The Huskies won the meet with 183 points while Dartmouth finished second with 144.50 points and Brown placed third with 140 points. Massachusetts finished with 100 points.
The Minutewomen were led by three first-place finishes on Friday. Julie McGee (Needham, Mass.) won the 10,000 meter run at 37:23.64 to claim 10 points for the Minutewomen, while Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) claimed gold in the 400-meter dash at 1;02.54. Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed first in the pole vault when she cleared 11'6".
Also performing well for UMass was Jennifer Iasiello (Barrington, R.I.) and Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass.). Soares finished third in the long jump at 18'8-1/2" while Iasiello claimed silver in the hammer throw when she hit the 152'11" mark.
The Minutewomen will next compete on April 26 when they travel to Durham, N.H. to take on UNH, Harvard and Maine.
