Women's Track Fourth After Day One

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Massachusetts women's outdoor track and field team finished in fourth place after the first day of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Richmond, Va., on Saturday. The competition will wrap up on Sunday, May 4.
The Minutewomen recorded two first place finishes on the first day of the conference meet. Junior Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) tied the school record she set in the pole vault last season when she cleared 12'0" to capture the conference title in the event. Green's mark also qualified her for the NCAA Regional meet. This is the second straight year Green has claimed gold in the pole vault at the outdoor meet. She also won the event in the 2002 and 2003 A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Sophomore Jennifer Iasiello (Barrington, R.I.) recorded the second Massachusetts victory on Saturday, claiming first in the hammer throw with a mark of 153'00".
Also performing well for the Minutewomen on the first day of the A-10 meet was sophomore Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.) and freshman Billieann Kelly (Mansfield, Mass.). Anzelone finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:27.00 while Kelly claimed fourth place in the javelin when she hit the 131'00" mark.
The Minutewomen will try to earn their second outdoor track and field title in the last three years on Sunday when the A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship concludes.
