Track Finishes Solid At Holy Cross Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - University of Massachusetts track and field performers junior John O'Neil (Reading,Mass.) and senior Crystal Therrien (Fairhaven, Mass.) placed third and fourth, respectively, at the Crusades Decathlon Championship April 16-17 at Holy Cross. Three Minutewomen finished in the top 10 in the heptathlon while O'Neil placed third and teammate senior Ken Scheider (Wood Ridge, N.J.) finished in ninth place in the decathlon. O'Neil tallied 5,820 points over the two-day meet, topping his performance with first-place finishes in the 400-meter dash (50.57) and the 1500-meter run (4:30.83). Scheider finished with 4,788 points. Therrien clinched her fourth-place finish with 4,116 points in the heptathlon. Ashley Creel (Sandwich, Mass.)finished seventh with 3,906 points and junior Nastaran Shams (Swamscott, Mass.) finished right behind her in eighth with 3,869 points. The UMass men's and women's track and field teams will next be in action this weekend when they travel to Storrs, Conn., for a meet hosted by UConn.
