Women's Track Finishes Sixth At A-10's

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Massachusetts women's indoor track and field team finished in sixth place at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field championpships held in Kingston, R.I. on Saturday.
Richmond won the event with 134.50 points, with Rhode Island in second (132.50), Temple third (115), Saint Joseph's fourth (81.50), Duquesne fifth (74), Massachusetts sixth (60.50), La Salle seventh (59), Dayton eighth (51) and Fordham ninth (33).
Junior Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) won the pole vault competition when she successfully cleared 11' 5-3/4". The junior also claimed the gold in the event at last year's A-10 indoor championships as well.
Also performing well for the Minutewomen were freshman Ashley Creel (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.). Creel placed second in the high jump when she hit 5'7", and Huff finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.28) and fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.18).
Seniors Katherine Blais (Andover, Mass.) and Jen Freemas (Wallingford, Pa.) also tallied points for the Minutewomen, as Blais placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run (3:01.58) and Freemas finished fourth in the 500-meter run at 1:17.53. Junior Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) claimed sixth place in the long jump at 18' 2-1/4".
