AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts senior swimmer Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Mass.) was named Dinn Brothers UMass Athlete of the Week by the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee for the week ending Jan. 26. Zaucha won two events against George Washington on Jan. 25, placing first in both the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley in 1:56.83 and 1:57.11, respectively.
The senior also tallied a second place finish in the 100-backstroke to his list of accolades against the Colonials, finishing at 56.65. His efforts helped UMass clinch a 161-96 victory over George Washington, and also earned him conference honors. Zaucha's two victories against GW earned him the title of the A-10 Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week.
Zaucha, a tri-captain on this year's team, is currently ranked second on the UMass school record lists in the 200-yard IM (1:51.44) and is fourth in both the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.88) and 100-yard backstroke (50.95). This year he leads the team in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM.
Zaucha and the Minutemen will next compete on Feb. 1 at Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
