UMass Track Ties For Second

DURHAM, N.H. -- The Massachusetts women's indoor track and field team finished in a tie for second place with Holy Cross with 169 total points on Saturday. The host school, New Hampshire, finished first in the four team meet with 199 points, and Quinnipiac finished fourth with 29 points.

UMass tallied five first place finishes at the Paul Sweet Oval at UNH, led by sophomore Christina Huff's (Springfield, Mass.) two victories. Huff finished first in both the 55-meter dash and the 200-yard dash, recording times of 7.32 and 26.85, respectively.

Also tallying first place finishes for the Minutewomen were juniors Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass.), as well as freshman Ashley Creel (Sandwich, Mass.). Jackson won the 55-meter hurdles at 8.75, while Creel placed first in the high jump at 5' 4" and Soares finished first in the long jump at 17' 4-1/2".

In the distance events UMass was led by senior Julie McGee (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore Alexis Anzelone (Westfield, N.J.). McGee finished second in the 1,000-meter run at 3:14.39 and Anzelone placed second in the 3,000-meter run at 10:55.27.

The Minutewomen will next compete on Jan. 31 in Boston, Mass.
