Women's Tennis Upends Rhode Island, 6-1

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team topped Rhode Island, 6-1, in an important Atlantic 10 conference match yesterday afternoon. The Minutewomen won the doubles point and never looked back as they took five out of the six singles matches as well.
In doubles, the No. 1 tandem of senior Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) and sophomore Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) beat Ally Erasmous and Cynthia Taylor, 8-4. At No. 2, sophomore Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) and freshman Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) knocked off Jess Collins and Erin Dwyer, 8-2. It was the pair's eighth consecutive doubles win.
Depontes, Price, Horak, Hyams and freshman Ashley Smith (Southboro, Mass.) all picked up singles wins for the Maroon & White.
Massachusetts will host Amherst College at the Upper Boyden Courts this afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
