Women's Track competes at ECAC Championships

ROXBURY, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team competed in day one of the ECAC (East Coast Athletic Conference) Championships along with 13 other teams today at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass.
Leading the way for the Minutewomen was sophomore Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) who finished fifth in her heat of the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds. That time should qualify for the semi-finals held Saturday at either 4:10 or 5:00 p.m. depending on her seeding. Green also finished 15 out of 26 competitors in the pole vault clearing 11'3.75" (3.45 meters), but not scoring any points for the Minutewomen.
Senior co-captain Rhianna DaCruz (Pawtucket, R.I.) also competed in the pole vault finishing 11 overall as she cleanly clearing a height of 11'3.75" (3.45 meters) but did not score any points for UMass.
Freshman Chrissy Bizon (Warwick, R.I.) will compete on Sunday in the women's weight throw beginning at 1:00 p.m. Bizon was named A-10 Rookie of the Week Feb. 12, where she won the weight throw at the St. Valentine Invitational with a toss of 51'0.25", her best of the season and currently the top mark in the conference. The throw also stands as the third-best in UMass history.
The Minutewomen open their outdoor track and field season Saturday, March 30, at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
