BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's indoor track team garnered 33 points this past weekend, and finished ninth out of 14 teams at the Husky Invitational. UMass won the long jump and set two new school records in the pole vault.

In the pole vault, sophomore Brandy Green (Fitchburg, Mass.) and senior co-captain Rhianna DaCruz (Pawtucket, R.I.) each cleared 11'6" to set a new school record and qualify for the ECAC Championships. The old record was set last weekend by DaCruz who cleared 11'00" at the Tufts Invitational. Green also set a new season-best in the 55M hurdles with a qualifying time of 8.34 seconds and qualfied for the ECAC Championship in that event too. Sophomore Chante Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) won the long jump with a new personal-high distance of 18'07.25".

Senior Jen Freemas (Wallingford, Pa.) finished eighth out of 31 competitors in the 400M run, but set a new season-low with a time of 1:00.3 and senior co-captain Sarah Thoms (Gloucester, Mass.) set a new season-low in the mile with a time of 5:24.12.

Sophomore Kate Markopoulos (Porter Corner, N.Y.) set a new season-best in the 800M run with a time of 2:27.40 and freshman Marissa Callahan (Bangkok, Thailand) finished 11th out of 27 competitors in the triple jump with a season-best and personal-best distance of 35'09".

The 4x400M relay team of sophomore Kristen Ford (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), freshman Christina Huff (Springfield, Mass.), Freemas and sophomore Shannon Jackson (Bridgewater, Mass.) set a new season-low with a time of 4:07.71.

Christina Bizon (Warwick, R.I.) also scored points for the Minutewomen with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw, getting a distance of 47'9.25".

Other teams competing included Connecticut (140.50 points), Rutgers (101.50), Syracuse (82), Boston College (56.50), Northeastern (54), Yale (48), UMass-Lowell (43), Dartmouth (37.5), Vermont (17), Southern Connecticut St. (15), Albany (12), New Hampshire (12) and Rider (11).

The Minutewomen return to action on Feb. 2 as they travel to Kingston, R.I., for a meet including URI, Brown, Providence College, Boston College and New Hampshire.
