Amherst, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving teams lost a close dual meet with the visiting University of Maryland- Baltimore County this afternoon in non-conference action. The Minutewomen lost a narrow, 157-143, battle while the Minutemen fell to the Retrievers, 174-126. UMass divers Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) and Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) led the Maroon and White with two wins apiece as the couple swept the dive events. Alomar won the one-meter dive with a score of 261.37 and the three-meter dive with a score of 269.85. Allery posted a score of 256.57 in the one-meter and 243.61 in the three-meter. Other top performances for UMass were Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.) who won the 50-yard free (24.67) and swam legs in the winning 200- and 400-yard free relays (1:51.39, 3:38.37). Boyle's 50-free time is the fastest this season for the Minutewomen. For the Minutemen, junior Justin Houck (Wyomissing, Pa.) and freshman Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.) were individual winners as Houck won the 100-yard back (52.72) and Smith was victorious in the 200-yard fly. UMass returns to action Jan. 26 as it travels to face Rutgers in a 2:00 p.m. dual meet.
