Field Hockey Falls to Northeastern, 4-2

BOSTON, Mass. - Northeastern overcame a 2-1 halftime defecit to defeat the University of Massachusetts, 4-2, in field hockey action this afternoon at Sweeny Field.
The Huskies struck first, when Sarah Broderick scored just 57 seconds into the game. The score remained 1-0 until 21:29 when UMass capitalized on a penalty corner. Senior Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) scored with assists coming from junior Erika Whiston (Athol, Mass.) and senior Lindsay Abbott (Northampton, Mass.). With the score, Bruemmer moved into fourth place in career goals at UMass. It was her second goal of the season and 42nd of her career.
The Minutewomen took the lead, 2-1, less that two minutes later when Whiston scored her second goal of the year at 19:50. UMass held onto the lead for the remainder of the half.
The Huskies evened the score in the opening minute of the second half when Broderick scored another goal. Maureen Connolly put the Huskies ahead, 3-2, by poking in a rebound at 28:31. Broderick tallied her third goal of the game at 19:19, sealing the victory for Northeastern.
Sophomore goaltender Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) made five saves in the cage for the Minutewomen, while Emily Roy made two saves for the Huskies.
The Minutewomen return to action Wednesday, Sept. 5, when they take on Boston College in their home-opener at Richard F. Garber Field at 7:00 p.m.
