AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts defeated Boston College, 2-1, in field hockey action at Richard F. Garber Field this evening. Junior Stacey Blue (Bellingham, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 13:20 remaining in the first half.
Boston College struck first, taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game. Senior captain Gina Dinan scored off a pass from sophomore Lauren Schultz with 33:20 on the clock. The score remained 1-0 until 27:39 when the Minutewomen capatilized on a penalty corner. Senior co-captain Kaitlyn Byron (Greenfield, Mass.) pushed the ball out to Blue at the top of the circle. Blue stopped the ball, setting up the goal for senior Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany).
Sophomore goaltender Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) made six saves in the cage for the Minutewomen. Boston College goaltender Lauren Hill also mades six saves.
The Minutewomen return to action Friday, Sept. 14, when they host Louisville in a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game at Richard F. Garber Field.
