Field Hockey Falls To Harvard, 4-2

The University of Massachusetts fell to Harvard, 4-2, in field hockey action this afternoon at Jordan Field . It is only the second time in the history of the series that UMass has fallen to Harvard, the other Umass loss came in 1984.
Harvard struck first with a goal from freshman Kate Gannon with 21:08 remaining in the first half. Two minutes later, UMass senior Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) capitalized on a penalty corner tying the game at 1-1. She was assisted by junior Stacey Blue (Bellingham, Mass.)and junior Erika Whiston (Athol, Mass.).
With 5:28 remaining in the first half Heather Hussey converted a feed from Shelley Maasdorp to put Harvard ahead going into halftime. Maasdorp then netted a goal early in the second half and Eliza Dick extended the lead further with a goal at the 14:43 mark.
Freshman Heather Kenney (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) put back the rebound of a penalty corner shot by Bruemmer in the final minutes of the game for the first goal of her career.
Harvard goaltender Katie Zacarian had two saves in the win, while UMass sophomore goaltender Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) had three saves.
The Minutewomen return to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when they take on Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
