The University of Massachusetts men's cross country team placed second at the 2001 Central Connecticut State University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23 in New Britain, Conn. Opponents included Maine, Vermont, Binghamton, Central Connecticut and Siena.
Leading the way for the Minutemen was senior Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) who finished ninth with a time of 27:37. Senior David Prasse (Walpole, Mass.) placed 10th with a time of 27:44. Next for UMass was sophomore John Jacobson (Taunton, Mass.) with a time of 27:47, which was good for 12th place. Junior Dave Hantman (Cambridge, Mass.) placed 13th, completing the course in a time of 27:49.
Maine won the meet with a team score of 23, followed by Massachusetts with 56 points, Vermont with 85 points, Binghamton with 98 points, CCSU with 105 points and Siena with 181 points.
The men's cross country team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., when they compete in the Meet of Champions. The meet is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
