AMHERST, Mass. -- The Men's Soccer team opened up their Spring season on Saturday April 7th with two home wins over the University of Hartford (2-0) and the D3 professionals of New Hampshire Phantoms (2-1).
The first game against the Phantoms was competitively fought with both teams eager to impress their respective coaching staff. The Minutemen were the quickest off the start with Jeff Deren scoring two goals early on in the first half. The Phantoms pulled one back near the end of the first half, and mounted further pressure in the second half. However, the Minutemen defense held out to earn the victory.
In the second and last game of the afternoon, the Minutemen were matched up against the Hartford Hawks- a team they play each Fall. The game was again competitively fought with both teams possessing the ball well. The Minutemen however took advantage of their chances and scored through Jeff Deren and Obie Gravely.
The Minutemen will be in action on April 21st, when they come up against the University of New Hampshire, Providence College, and the D3 professionals of Western Massachusetts Pioneers. The games will be played on the lower Boyden fields.
