AMHERST, Mass. -- Two University of Massachusetts swimmers received Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors for their performances in the Rutgers meet at UMass on Jan. 27. Freshman Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass. / Barnstable H.S.) was named the Women's Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season, while senior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody Veterans Memorial H.S.) was named the Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Dexter broke her own school record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:20.57 versus Rutgers, which is the fastest time in the A-10 this season. She also placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.78, which is just behind the school-record of 1:06.76 and is the second fastest time in the conference. Dexter previously set the record in the 200 breast on Jan. 20 at UMBC with a time of 2:21.79, and on Dec. 2, versus Syracuse with a time of 2:22.20.
Arsenault recorded victories in the 100 fly (49.56) and 100 free (46.25) versus Rutgers, the second and fifth fastest times in the A-10 this season. His time of 49.56 in the 100 fly is just behind his school record mark of 49.02, set on Nov. 4. Arsenault currently has the fastest times in the A-10 in five events, while UMass is on top of 14 of the 20 events.
The UMass women are 9-3 and the men are 9-4 in dual-meet competition as they both return to the pool on Saturday, Feb. 3, when they travel to the Bronx, N.Y., to take on Atlantic 10 foe Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
