Men's Track Competes at New England Challenge Cup

Boston, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts men's indoor track team tied for fifth place in a strong field at the New England Challenge Cup hosted by Boston University Friday afternoon.
Senior Mike Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 200 meters high with a time of 22.79 and also finished fifth in the 55 meters with a time of 6.70.
Senior Marc Sylvander (Chicopee, Mass.) finished third with a time of 49.67, and junior Mike Howell (Haverhill, Mass.) finished right behind in fourth, with a time of 50.06, in the 400 meters.
Senior Hugh Reid (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.23 and junior Jeff Jason finished second in the shot put with a throw of 50'10.00.
University of Connecticut won the meet with 181 points. Rounding out the top five was Brown (124), Rhode Island (89), Providence (59), UMass (50) and Boston College (50).
The Minutemen return to action Saturday, Jan. 27, at New Hampshire.
