UMass Hockey Defeats Brown, 4-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts sophomore Tim Turner (Saginaw, Mich.) and junior Martin Miljko (Etobicoke, Ontario) each scored two goals as the Minutemen defeated Brown University, 4-1, in college hockey action Tuesday night at the Mullins Center.
UMass opened the scoring early in the first period as Turner picked up a loose puck behind the Brown net and scored on a wrap around at 4:17 to give UMass a 1-0 lead.
Miljko scored the next two goals for the Minutemen, with his first goal coming on the power play at 19:09 of the first period with assists going to sophomore Jimmy Callahan (Lexington, Mass.) and senior captain Jeff Turner (Saginaw, Mich.). Miljko's next goal came at the 8:15 mark with assists again coming from Callahan and Jeff Turner. It was Miljko's 10th goal of the season.
Tim Turner netted his second goal of the game and 10th of the season at 9:48 of the third period from junior Justin Shaw (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Thomas P?ck (Klagenfurt, Austria) to give UMass a 4-0 lead.
Senior goaltender Markus Helanen (Vantaa, Finland) made16 saves on the night for the Minutemen, while Yann Danis made a career-high 38 saves for the Bears. UMass outshot Brown 42 to 17.
The victory improves UMass to 5-11-2 overall, while the Bears fall to 1-8-2. Jeff Turner moved into a tie for 10th place on the all-time UMass career points list with his 79th and 80th points. He is now tied with UMass Athletic Hall of Famer Russ Kidd (class of `56).
The Minutemen return to action this Saturday when they travel to Hockey East foe Providence on Jan. 6, for a 7:00 p.m. game at Schneider Arena. UMass has won five straight games over the Friars, including a 3-1 victory in Providence earlier this season.
