Three Swimmers Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. -- Three University of Massachusetts swimmers received Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors for their performances at the Rhode Island Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 13. Junior Anne Dettloff (Barrington Ill. / Portage Central H.S.) was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week for the first time this season, while freshman Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier H.S.) and freshman Peter Tawczynski (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian H.S.) were each named Rookie of the Week for the first time this season.
Dettloff won three events as the Minutewomen earned 429 points to place first at the URI Invite, finishing ahead of La Salle (242) and event host Rhode Island (191). Dettloff earned first-place finishes in the 200 (1:56.99), 500 (5:13.62) and 1000 free (10:36.77). She currently owns the second fastest times in the Atlantic 10 in the 200 and 1000 free, while she has the third fastest in the 100 free.
Rowell placed first in the 200 IM with a personal-best time of 2:13.39, the eighth fastest mark in the conference this season, while she recorded a team-season best time of 4:46.52 in the 400 IM, the 10th fastest time in the conference this season.
Tawczynski claimed first-place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.29, the 14th fastest in the conference this season, as UMass earned 377 points to place ahead of Dartmouth (263), La Salle (223) and event host Rhode Island (219). He finished second in the 400 IM with the 10 fastest time (4:17.58) in the Atlantic 10.
The UMass men and women are both 5-2 in dual-meet competition and return to the pool on Jan. 20, when they travel to Baltimore to take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and George Washington, at 1:00 p.m.
