KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Massachusetts women's swimming & diving team finished first out of three teams at the Rhode Island Invitational this weekend. UMass won all four relay events and junior Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) won three events as the team earned 429 points to place ahead of La Salle (242) and event host Rhode Island (191).

Dettloff earned first-place finishes in the 200 (1:56.99), 500 (5:13.62) and 1000 free (10:36.77). Junior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) won the 100 (1:00.57) and 200 back (2:09.31), while freshman Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) won the 100 (1:08.83) and 200 breast (2:22.87). Dexter's 200 breast time was just behind her school-record time of 2:22.20.

Other UMass individual winners included freshman Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the 200 IM with a season personal best time of 2:13.39 and sophomore Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.) in the 50 free with a time of 25.17.

The 400 medley relay team of sophomore Stacy Tam (Boxboro, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Bulkeley (Virginia Beach, Va.), senior Sharyn Harrison (Naugatuck, Conn.) and junior Becca Bell (Greenfield, Mass.) placed first with a time of 4:03.15, while the 200 free relay team of sophomore Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.), Buckley, junior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) and Dettloff won with a time of 1:39.78. UMass completed the sweep of the relay events with wins from the 200 medley relay team of Hunnewell, Dexter, Kazanjian and Buckley with a time of 1:52.83, and the 400 free relay team of Hunnewell, Boyle, freshman Shauna Nielsen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Dettloff with a time of 3:42.06.

Sophomore Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) placed second in the one-meter (226.55) and three-meter (411.70) diving events.

The Minutewomen are 5-2 in dual-meet competition and return to the pool on Jan. 20, when they travel to Baltimore to take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
