Francesca Mancini Named UMass/WHMP Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Francesca Mancini (Milan, Italy) of women's tennis was named the UMass/WHMP Athlete of the Week this afternoon at the UMass weekly sports luncheon. The honor marks the first citation for Mancini in her UMass career.
Mancini won four consecutive singles matches this past weekend at the Eastern Tennis Championships in West Point, N.Y., which earned her the No. 2 singles crown in just her first collegiate tournament. She captured straight-set victories in all four matches.
"Francesca is very mature in all aspects of the game," head coach Judy Dixon said. "One of the key things with any college player is shot selection, and her choice of shots is extremely mature. And she makes you play every point. She does not give away anything for free. She has great promise as a freshman."
