Cross Country Squads Race At Home

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's cross country team placed second and the men's team took third in their only home meet of the season.
Leading the way for the Minutewomen was junior Kristin Cisowski (Salem, N.H.), who took ninth place overall with a time of 18:51. Senior Melissa Henderson (Abington, Mass.) was right behind, placing 12th at 18:53. The next three UMass finishers were senior Megan McCormick (State College, Pa.), junior Katherine Blais (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Molly Ketschek (Wilbraham, Mass.). They placed 14th,15th and 16th respectively at 19:14, 19:15 and 19:16.
Boston University (15 points) won the women's race with a sweep, and was followed by UMass (56), Maine (81), Vermont (101) and Central Connecticut (107).
For the Minutemen, senior Mike Pieck (Guilderland, N.Y.) led the way by finishing seventh overall with a time of 24:39. Senior Kevin Somers (Monson, Mass.) and junior Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) followed at 11th and 13th, logging times of 24:51 and 24:58. Junior Salvatore Nastasi (Merrich, N.Y.) took 19th at 25:14, and senior Brendan Sullivan (New City, N.Y.) was next at 21st place with 25:21.
Boston University also swept the men's race (15 points), and was followed by Maine (59), UMass (71), Vermont (96) and Central Connecticut (169).
The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Meet of Champions in Bronx, N.Y..
