Women's Tennis Downs Rhode Island, 7-2

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team defeated Rhode Island 7-2 today in Kingston, R.I., to improve to 7-14 this season and 4-9 during the spring campaign.
The Minutewomen captured four out of six singles victories in the win over the Rams. Sophomore Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) posted a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Ally Erasmous in the No. 2 slot, while sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) downed Cyndi Taylor at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Katie Stammen (North Attleboro, Texas) picked up another straight-set decision over Danielle Kapner in the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-0, and junior Robyn Lebovitz (Marietta, Ga.) came up with the final singles win for UMass with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lauren Sabataso.
The Minutewomen won all three doubles matches, as well, in the win.

UMass will wrap up the 1999-2000 campaign this weekend, when it travels to Blacksburg, Va., for the 2000 Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Tennis Championships from April 14-16. The Minutewomen finished third at last season's championship behind champion Virginia Tech and runner-up Temple.
