CORNELL WINTER INVITATIONAL: The Minutewomen competed at the Cornell Winter Invitational from Jan. 28-30 in Ithaca, N.Y. The duo of senior Ola Gerasimova (Liatvia Ridge, Russia) and sophomore Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) advanced into the semifinals of Flight A Doubles before bowing out to Penn State's Martina Kopacova and Rebecca Ho, 8-2. The UMass tandem defeated the No. 2 seed, Seton Hall's Laura McCracken and Kyli LaSallein in second-round action, 8-5. Freshman Katie Stammen (North Attleboro, Mass.) advanced into the second round of Flight B Singles with a three-set victory over Columbia's Andrea Sanders before falling to the No. 3 seed, Penn State's Judy Wang, 6-1, 6-1.
UP NEXT: UMass will open up the spring dual-match season on Feb. 11 at Yale. The Minutewomen will also face Princeton on Feb. 12 in Princeton, N.J.
FALL SEASON IN REVIEW: The Minutewomen finished the fall campaign with a 3-5 dual-match record. Gerasimova and Stammen led UMass in singles victories at 6-5 apiece. The pair of Gerasimova and Hamilton paced the Minutewomen in doubles action at 4-3.
