AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts tennis teams will both travel to Providence, R.I. this weekend to face Brown on Feb. 25 and 26 at 2 p.m. The Minutemen will face the Bears on Friday and the Minutewomen on Saturday. UMass men's tennis stands at 6-1 this year, while the women are 4-8 overall.
For the first time in school history, both UMass tennis squads are nationally ranked. The Daily Tennis Top 200 Rankings rank the women at No. 152, while the men stand at No. 177. The Minutemen's ranking marks the first time ever in school history.
"I am extremely proud of the success of this program," head coach Judy Dixon says. "I am particularly proud of the men because this is not a scholarship program. One of my goals is to become one of the first non-scholarship programs to be ranked in the Top 100. The women have struggled this year, but for them to still be ranked shows what a leap forward this program has taken."
The Bear men are ranked at No. 106 and stand at 2-1 during the spring campaign. The women are ranked No. 134 and are 2-2 this year.
