AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts men's swimming & diving team defeated Syracuse, 239-127. UMass is now 4-2 in dual-meet competition on the season.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.), senior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.), senior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Fisher (Santa Barbara, Calif.) set a school-record with a time of 1:32.94, previously set in the 1997-98 season with a time of 1:33.40.
Brown won the 400 IM with a pool record time of 4:02.92, while Arsenault won the 100 fly (49.24) and 100 free (45.53). Sophomore Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) placed first in the 200 free (1:43.32) and the 500 free (4:36.02) in a pool record time.
The 800 free relay team of Keane, sophomore Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.), Zaucha and Arsenault set a pool record with a time of 6:50.94. The 400 free relay team of Fisher, senior Mike Sabina (Avon, Mass.), freshman Pete Mesavage (Stratford, Conn.) and Arsenault won in a time of 3:07.71.
The Minutemen return to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 9, when they travel to UConn to take on the Huskies at 3:00 p.m.
