Men's Swimming & Diving Tops UConn, 139-104

STORRS, Conn. -- Senior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) won two events as the University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team defeated Connecticut, 139-104, Saturday afternoon at UConn's Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. UMass improves to 5-2 on the season, while the Huskies drop to 4-3.
Arsenault placed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.62 and the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.78, while freshman Ryan Fisher (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won the 50 free in a team season best time of 21.23.
Other UMass winners included freshman Peter Tawczynski (Holden, Mass.) in the 200 IM (1:55.86), sophomore Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.) in the 200 back (1:53.67), senior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) in the 200 breast (2:05.54) and sophomore Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) in the 1000 free (9:43.76). Freshman diver Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) placed first in the three-meter diving event with a score of 289.95.
UMass' 400 medley relay team of Zaucha, Brown, senior Joe Martin (Naugatuck, Conn.) and senior Mike Sabina (Avon, Mass.) won the event with a time of 3:26.50, while the 400 free relay team of Zaucha, sophomore Chad Arnold (Mohnton, Pa.), Sabina and Arsenault placed first in a time of 3:09.91.
The Minutemen return to the pool on Jan. 6, when they compete at the Sarasota Invitational, in Sarasota, Fla.
