AMHERST, Mass. -- Boston University's Carl Corazzini scored two goals and assited on two others as Terriers defeated the University of Massachusetts, 5-2, in college hockey action tonight at the Mullins Center.
UMass opened the scoring early in the first period when senior captian Jeff Turner (Saginaw, Mich.) took a pass from Martin Miljko (Etobicoke, Ontario) and Samuli Jalkanen (Helsinki, Finland) on the power play at 2:39.
Boston University scored five consecutive goals, including three on the power play. Freddy Meyer scored the Terriers first goal with assists from Corazzini and Jack Baker to tie the game at 1-1. Corazzini scored the Terriers second and fifth goals as BU opened a 5-1 lead just 57 seconds into the third period. Baker ended the night with three assists
Miljko scored on the power play at 10:29 of the third period with assists from Tim Turner (Saginaw, Mich.) and Jimmy Callahan (Lexington, Mass.) to cut the Terriers lead to 5-2.
Markus Helanen (Vantaa, Finland) made 22 saves on the night for the Minutemen, while Jason Tapp made 33 saves for the Terriers.
UMass is now 3-9-2 overall and 3-2-0 in Hockey East, while the Terriers now stands at 3-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Hockey East.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Boston at the Walter Brown Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
