UMass Tennis Splits Matches With UConn

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team improved to 6-1, by sweeping regional rival UConn, 6-0, while the men suffered their first loss of the year, 5-2, in dual matches played at Storrs.
The Minutewomen posted victories in all of the singles matches and would not need to proceed in doubles as the match outcome was foreseen.
In men's singles, freshman Aron Gortman (Beverly Hills, Calif.) defeated the Huskies' Jono Talbot 6-4, 6-0, in no. 2 singles. Freshman Brent Davis (San Diego, Calif.) picked up the other singles win for UMass as he dropped Luke Grimshaw 6-4, 6-1.
UConn took the doubles point from the Minutemen as they won two out of three matches. Picking up the lone victory for UMass was the tandem of Steve Prisco (Dedham, Mass.)/Davis as they dropped the team of Max Zubatsky and Mike Furman, 8-4, in no. 1 doubles.
Both UMass programs head to their respective regional championships next week. The men will travel to Virginia Tech on Nov. 2-6, while the women compete at William and Mary on Nov. 4-7. Men's Results:
