UMass Cross Country Set to Compete at Atlantic 10 Championship

Amherst, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts cross country teams are set to compete at 2000 Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend, Oct. 28, in Pittsburg, PA.

The women come into 2000 winning the last five A-10 championships and are predicted by coaches to win their sixth. The Minutewomen are lead by Kristin Cisowski who won the individual title in 1998 with a time of 18:24. UMass in the last five years has an average margin of victory of 21.2 points in the championship.

Looking to dethrone the Minutewomen are Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's and Xavier. The race is 5,000 meters and will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Th men are hoping for an upset as they are predicted by the coaches of the A-10 to finish fourth. The men's race is 8,000 meters and will start shortly after the women's race at 10:30 a.m. Last year's winner La Salle is predicted to repeat but will have strong competition from St. Joseph's, Duquesne, and UMass.
