Men's Track & Field Wins Tri-Meet At UNH

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Vic Morency (North Dartmouth, Mass.) posted yet another career best in the shot put, leading UMass to a first place finish at a tri-meet at New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon. UMass finished with 86 points, 11 infront of UNH with Holy Cross finishing third with 18 points.
Morency's throw of 53' 5" in the shot put outdistanced his previous career-best by almost two feet for the second consecutive week. The throw moves him into second on the all-time charts in the shot put, just 4.75 inches short of the indoor record and also automatically qualifies him for the IC4A Championhips later this season. Morency also placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 55' 2".
Freshman Stefan Russ (Neuhausen, Germany) continued his strong rookie campaign with two first-first place finishes. Russ won the 55 meter dash in 6.64 seconds and also won the high jump with a jump of 6'7". His 55 meter time is the best by any UMass runner this season and the high jump mark puts him into third place on the all-time UMass high jump chart.
Freshman Ben Vik (Tyngsboro, Mass.) placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 14'6" The mark places him third all-time in the UMass pole vault record books.
UMass will be back in action on Saturday at Rhode Island in a meet with Maryland, NewHampshire and Rider.
