AMHERST, Mass. ? Bolstered by a slew of first-place finishes, the Minutewomen defeated the University of Maryland Baltimore County by 31 points, 137-106.
UMass was led by sophomore Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.), who captured first place in both the 50 yard freestyle (24.96) and the 100 yard freestyle (54.42). Sophomore Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) and senior Elizabeth Risotto (Setauket, N.Y.) also recorded wins. Dettloff took the 200 yard freestyle in 1:55.27, a new season best, with Risotto winning the 200 yard backstroke in 2:08.09. The 400 yard freestyle relay of Lyndsay Crenshaw (Escondido, CA), Kazanjian, Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass), and Dettloff also won. Rounding out the victory, divers Robin Velona and Kate Allery won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving respectively.
The Minutemen travel to New Jersey next week to swim against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers January 29 at 2:00pm.
