Women Place Second In Boston College Meet

THE WEEK AHEAD: UMass travels to Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, Sept 18, for a quad-meet with Central Connecticut, Boston University, and host Vermont.

A LOOK BACK: The Minutewomen placed second in the Boston College meet on Friday with 49 points. Boston College won the meet with 18 points, New Hampshire was third with 68, followed by UConn with 110. Senior Sally Hirsch (Brookline, Mass.) paced the Minutewomen with a seventh place showing in 19:01. Senior Nicole Way (Marston Mills, Mass.) finished eighth followed by sophomore Kristin Cisowski (Salem, N.H.) in ninth with times of 19:05 and 19:06.

BACK ON TOP: The Minutewomen are picked to repeat as conference champions again this year in the preseason Atlantic 10 coaches poll. The team returns 10 of 11 starters from last season?s championship team.

HEAD COACH JULIE LaFRENIERE: Julie Lafreniere enters her 13th season at the helm of Minutewomen cross country/track & field teams. She has led the team to six out of the last eight Atlantic 10 cross country titles, including the last four in a row. While an undergradate at UMass, LaFreniere led her team to a New England Championship and a ninth-place finish at the first women?s National Championship. The 1977 UMass graduate has been named A-10 Coach of the Year five times, in 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
