Men's Cross Country Ties For Fourth At Boston

THE WEEK AHEAD: UMass travels to Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, Sept 18, for a quad-meet with Maine, Boston University, and host Vermont.
A LOOK BACK: The Minutemen tied for fourth in the Boston College meet Friday at Franklin Park in Boston. Leading the pack for UMass was senior Matt Ely (Andover, Mass.). Ely finished 17th overall with a time of 26:35. Sophomore Salvatore Nastasi (Merrich, N.Y.) was the second UMass runner to cross the finish line, placing 21st overall in 26:46. Rounding out the scoring for the Minutemen were sophomore Kevin Curtin (Chelmsford, Mass.) in 25th place, freshman Dave Hantman (Cambridge, Mass.) in 26th and sophomore Colin Baughman (Sherril, N.Y.).
HEAD COACH KEN O?BRIEN: This will be Ken O?Brien?s 33rd season as head coach of the UMass men?t cross country/track & field teams. During his tenure, UMass has won 16 conference championships, four New England titles and two IC4A titles. Last season, O?Brien was named NCAA District I Track and Field Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. The 1963 UMass graduate has produced seven all-Americans during his 33-year career.
