Women's Indoor Track Opens 1999-2000 Campaign At Brown University

A LOOK AHEAD: Select Minutewomen athletes will compete in the Rhode Island Pentathlon on Dec. 10 in Kingston, R.I. The entire team will compete again on the 14th of January in the New England Challenge Cup Trials in Hanover, N.H.
BROWN INVITATIONAL: Sophomore Rhianna Da Cruz (Pawtucket, R.I.) came up just one-half inch short of the UMass indoor pole vault record on Saturday afternoon. Her personal-best jump of 10?0? was good for third place in the meet. No team scores were calculated for the meet.
DISTANCE DOMINATION: The UMass distance runners ran over the competition at Saturday?s meet. Seniors Sharon Tillotson (Wantagh, N.Y.), Elizabeth Sheptyck (North Eastham, Mass.), and sophomore Rebecca Aldrich finished first, second and third respectively in the 3,000 meters. Junior Melissa Henderson (Abington, Mass.) raced to a first place in the 3,000 meter run, and senior Monica Elmore (Coldchester, Vt.) was the runner-up in the 1,000 meters.
HEAD COACH JULIE LaFRENIERE: Julie LaFreniere is in her 13th season at the helm of Minutewomen cross country/track & field teams. She led last season?s team to a second place finish in both the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships and the New England Indoor Championships. The 1977 UMass graduate has coached her team to two of the last four Atlantic 10 Indoor titles and was named A-10 Indoor Coach of the Year in 1996. LaFreniere has compiled an overall record of 135-41 in track at UMass
