Minutemen Race Into Boston For NCAA Regional Action

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Minutemen will take their top seven runners to the NCAA Northeast Regional in Boston on Nov. 13.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: The top two teams from each of the nine regions will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22, along with thirteen additional teams receiving at-large bids based on regional performance. The top four individual finishers at each regional site who are not members of the top two teams will also qualify for the NCAA Championships. SUPER SOPHS: A quartet of sophomores led the Minutemen in the A-10 Championships. Keven Curtin (Chelmsford, Mass.) paced the team with a 17th place finish in 26:05.7. Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) finished 19th overall in 26:09.5. Colin Baughman (Sherril, N.Y.) and David Prasse (Walpole, Mass.) finished together in 34th and 35th, respectively as UMass? third and fourth fastest runners.

HEAD COACH KEN O?BRIEN: This is Ken O?Brien?s 33rd season as head coach of the UMass men?s cross country/track & field teams. During his tenure, UMass has won 16 conference championships, four New England titles and two IC4A titles. Last season, O?Brien was named NCAA District I Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. The 1963 UMass graduate has produced seven all-Americans during his 33-year career.
