AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman midfielder Sarah Bohonowicz (South Deerfield, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 3-0 win over the University of California in an NCAA Field Hockey Tournament play-in game on Tuesday afternoon. UMass improves to 14-8 on the season, while Cal is now 12-5.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Lindsay Abbott (Northampton, Mass.) scored the first goal of the contest 8:13 into the second half. Abbott got the goal after redirecting a free hit by Bohonowicz from outside the circle. Bohonowicz then gave the Minutewomen a 2-0 lead with 8:09 left in regulation when she took a feed from sophomore back Kerry Ann Jaggassar (Longdenville, Trinidad & Tobago) and scored. Junior forward Tamra Geryk (Hatfield, Mass.) gave the Minutewomen some added insurance with 4:25 remaining when she tipped a free hit by Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.) up into the goal to give UMass a 3-0 lead.

Junior goaltender Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales) made six saves en route to UMass? sixth shutout in its past seven games. Sarah Hoehn made eight saves for the Golden Bears. The win for the Minutewomen was their tenth in a row, with their last loss coming at Syracuse on Oct. 11.

The Minutewomen now await NCAA Tournament pairings which will be announced on Wednesday, November 10. First round games in the tournament will be played on Saturday, Nov. 13.
