Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The UMass men?s swimming and diving team improved its dual-meet record to 2-0 on the season with a 184-98 win over Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. Junior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) won both the 400-y IM (4:16.00) and the 200-y breaststroke (2:09.31). His time in the 200-y breaststroke set a new Central Connecticut pool record. Freshman Jared Toren (Marlboro, N.J.) started the Minutemen off in the win column by posting a victory in the 100-y backstroke, in 55.80. Junior Mike Sabina (Avon, Mass.) won the 100-y breast in a time of 1:01.46. Sophomore Carlos Ramos (San Juan, P.R.) claimed victory in the 100-y butterfly in 53.39. Senior Henry Turner (Melrose, Mass.) won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.13. In diving, senior Ed Hefferon (Stratford, Conn.) claimed victory on both the one and three-meter boards with scores of 271.35 and 234.10, respectively. Finally, the 400-y freestyle relay team of Ramos, Antonio Maldonado (San Juan, P.R.) Turner and Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) claimed victory in a time of 3:16.06.
The Minutemen will return to the pool this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Boston University.
