Men's Swimming and Diving Tops Boston University 145-96

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men?s swimming and diving team improved their 1999-2000 dual meet record to 3-0 with a 145-96 win over Boston University this afternoon at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool.
Juniors Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) and Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) each won two events on the day. Arsenault won the 200-y freestyle in 1:44.29, and then won the 100-y free in 47.38. Brown took the win in the 200-y IM in 1:57.27, and then won the 200-y breaststroke in 2:07.79. In diving, senior Ed Hefferon (Stratford, Conn.) posted a career-best score of 307.95 to win the one-meter event. Hefferon?s score ranks third all-time at UMass. Junior Jason Ely (Sandwich, Mass.) took third in that event with a score of 240.45, the 10th best in school history.
In the 50-y free, senior Henry Turner (Melrose, Mass.) took first place in a winning time of 22.17. Freshman Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.) won the 200-y backstroke in 1:59.98.
The Minutemen return to the pool next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they, along with the women?s swimming and diving team, host St. John?s at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool.
